What is OpenPhonyx ?
OpenPhonyx is opensource version of Phonyx PBX. In fact, OpenPhonyx is debian distribution prepackaged for use as PBX. OpenPhonyx is in partnership with Phonyx PBX, because code is shared from OpenPhonyx to Phonyx PBX and vice versa. OpenPhonyx developers can became Phonyx PBX developers. Phonyx PBX is based on opensource software and OpenPhonyx includes any changes to opensource made by Phonyx PBX team. So GPL licence is always achieved. In fact, OpenPhonyx is just compilation of more opensource software which are glued together to fit our needs. Heartbeat of Phonyx is GREAT Asterisk software. Because we are in early stage of OpenPhonyx developement, we use 1.6 beta version of asterisk, which will become stable together with openphonyx. We are discussing now about another PBX implementations because OpenPhonyx should not be focused only to one PBX core switch.
Stage
We are in early stage of developement. We need to discuss many things and to write many software to do exactly what we need. First of all, we are working on OpenPhonyx_0_1.
License
OpenPhonyx is developed under GPL licence. But there is exception. Phonyx team reserves rights to break GPL license when using code from OpenPhonyx inside Phonyx.
Where are CDs??
Nowhere yet. Sorry. OpenPhonyx is now in devel stage. We are working on first release which will be stripped from Phonyx sources. ISO will be available for download here.
What is Phonyx ?
Phonyx PBX is "sister" of OpenPhonyx. In other words, Phonyx PBX is sponsor of this project. More successfull will be Phonyx PBX, more lucky will be OpenPhonyx and vice versa.
Why PBX? There are another CDs with asterisk
There are many VoIP systems and software in the world. Some of them are focused to ease configuration, some to do big interoperability, and some are focused to one VoIP protocol. Each of them has some advantages and disadvantages. We made OpenPhonyx which chooses its own way. Even if it is software today, it aims to be hardware platform in future. We want to develop PBX, which will be highly stable and usable for real business. Our primary goal is not easy configuration, but highly customisable system, controlled via XML and command line interface. We will support embedding and distribution by images and patches.
So, answer is: Yes, there are. Why not to make next one? ;) We like debian, and we did not find any other similar project based on it. Next, our bussiness goal is Phonyx PBX, OpenPhonyx is it's derivate.
Where I can download directly from SVN?
Use this command:
svn co svn://open.phonyx.eu/ openphonyx
But be aware. OpenPhonyx is designed to be developed using developer CD. Even if it is possible to build on any debian like distribution (like Ubuntu), if you do not know what you are doing, it is realy much more easy to download entire developer iso image. And, of course, build system is not 100% safe, and we do not guarantee any changes to your system during build.
OpenPhonyx is not Phonyx-FREE
OpenPhonyx is absolutely another project than Phonyx-FREE. While Phonyx-FREE includes proprietary and licenced code made by Phonyx TEAM, OpenPhonyx is distributed using GPL licence. Even if Phonyx-FREE is free to use for anybody, it includes only basic functionality of Phonyx system to show its possibilities. Instead of this, OpenPhonyx is absolutely open for anybody, like any other opensource software.
I want to contribute!
OK, you are welcomed! See contribute page. You can support this project by buying Phonyx PBX. You can refer about this project to your friends. You can test our CDs and use our ticket system to help us with developing new versions. To became developper or tester, please see contribute.
I want new feature
OK, anybody needs some feature. You can either download developer cd, write code by yourself and contribute or use our ticket system to specify your needs. Or you can support our project by buing Phonyx PBX.
